The Stories We Tell

It has been said that humans are ‘hard wired’ to communicate through stories.    Are they too much of a good thing?  The mind has made a habit out of telling stories.  For most people, stories run constantly in the mind, and often on a repeating loop.   Have you noticed?   For example, someone drives past protesters on a street corner outside a Health Care Town Hall Meeting.   The mind says,  “Those so and so < fill in the blank political party> extremists. How outrageous… etc.etc “.    But the facts were simply that an unusual number of people were standing on the corner with political signs.”   See the difference?

In this way, stories enrich the ego, and draw upon emotions to add even more energy to the small sense of identity that sees itself as separate, or a victim, or better than, the others.

Next time you become aware that you mind is running a story,  break the habit, take an easy breath, and relax into the present moment and and your True Identify as an expression of the Oneness.
